Environmental Technician

The Environmental Technician is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations by managing waste, conducting inspections, and supporting environmental reporting efforts. With a solid background in handling hazardous and non-hazardous waste, tracking inventory, ensuring proper disposal and shipping, and monitoring stormwater and discharge, the Environmental Technician is vital to maintaining environmental standards.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Waste Management

· Waste Profiling: Identify and classify hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams for proper disposal or recycling.

· Waste Inspections: Perform regular waste inspections, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, proper labeling, storage, and documentation.

· Tracking and Inventory: Maintain accurate records of waste generated, stored, and disposed of, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

· Shipment Coordination: Arrange for the transportation and proper disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, working with approved vendors to ensure compliance with shipping regulations.

2. Environmental Reporting

· Manifest Completion: Prepare, review, and sign hazardous and non-hazardous waste manifests for shipments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with environmental standards.

· Solid and Hazardous Waste Reporting: Collect and compile data for solid and hazardous waste reporting, ensuring timely and accurate submission to regulatory agencies.

· Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMR): Prepare and submit discharge monitoring reports, ensuring water discharge from the facility meets all regulatory requirements.

3. Compliance Inspections

· SPCC Inspections: Conduct regular inspections under the Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plan, ensuring that spill prevention controls are in place and operational.

· SWPPP Inspections: Perform inspections in compliance with the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) to prevent pollutants from contaminating stormwater runoff.

· Regulatory Audits: Assist with environmental audits, providing records, documentation, and compliance reports as necessary.

4. Sampling and Monitoring

· Stormwater Sampling: Conduct routine stormwater sampling for analysis, ensuring results comply with environmental standards.

· Air and Water Quality Monitoring: Collect samples for air and water quality testing to support environmental monitoring programs.

5. Safety and Compliance Training

· Training and Development: Participate in training sessions on environmental regulations, waste handling, and safety procedures to stay updated on current practices.

· Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to all applicable environmental regulations, including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and others.

6. Emergency Response

· Spill Response: Participate in and lead response efforts for spills or other environmental incidents, coordinating with emergency response teams and ensuring that containment measures are in place.

· Documentation and Follow-Up: Complete reports and documentation following spills or incidents, ensuring that all corrective actions are tracked and resolved.

Qualifications:

Required:

1. 5 years of experience in environmental compliance, waste management, and environmental sampling

2. In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements (EPA, RCRA, etc.)

3. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills developed over years of practice

4. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

5. Certification or training in hazardous waste operations, stormwater management, and other environmental compliance areas preferred
