Environmental Specialist

Job Summary:
The Environmental Specialist will assist the facility’s Environmental Department by ensuring federal, state, and local regulations are identified and followed.  The position will mainly focus on technical field work, regulatory training, and waste management.  This role requires experience in Environmental permit compliance and sampling, waste management, and permit upkeep and training. The Environmental Specialist may provide Environmental assistance as requested in support of organizational compliance and continuous improvement.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:
  • Assist with facility-wide Environmental and Safety initiatives, policy development and implementation, and training program development or delivery.
  • Assist the facility staff with waste acceptance, storage & inspection, and offloading and accurate completion of associated paperwork.
  • Conduct air emissions monitoring and source sampling to ensure permit requirements are met.
  • Collect, analyze, and document results of wastewater and stormwater samples.
  • Maintain accurate records and assist the facility staff with data submission to regulatory agencies to ensure compliance.
  • Provide  RCRA and DOT Hazardous Waste training sessions.
  • Assist with managing LDEQ permits to include renewals and modifications.
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and assessments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze EHS performance metrics and recommend improvements.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • 5 years of experience in Environmental roles
  • Knowledge of EPA, DOT Hazardous Waste (49CFR), and LDEQ regulations and implementation
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Process oriented
Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health or related field; or equivalent experience.
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
  • Work may involve exposure to noise, dust, heat, and heavy equipment areas
  • Must be able to wear required PPE as required
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, and occasionally lift materials as required
